micro:bit: from a first blinking LED to creative robotics

The BBC micro:bit is how thousands of Filipino kids write their first real program for a real device. DEVCON Kids code camps take them from micro:bit Explorers to Creative Robotics and machine learning.

2025 impact report

Code camps that stick

  • 44Code camps delivered in 2025
  • 86%Bohol CodeQuest students more confident in coding
  • 92%Want to keep learning computer science

The curriculum

A path, not a one-off

  • micro:bit Explorers: blocks, LEDs, buttons, and sensors
  • micro:bit Creative Robotics: Smart Animals and Robotics in Space
  • AI: machine learning with an image classifier, with facial recognition in development

Bohol CodeQuest and Hello, Code! Pangasinan

At Bohol CodeQuest 2025, 60 Grade 5 and 6 students from Tagbilaran and Mabini spent six hours building with micro:bit: 86% reported more confidence in coding, 78% showed interest in STEM careers, and 92% want to keep learning. At Hello, Code! Pangasinan, 50 Grade 6 students did the same in four hours.

micro:bit Champions

Teachers keep micro:bit going: 43 PSHS teachers trained at the Computer Science Summit, a 10-teacher micro:bit Lead Learner Workshop at AHA Sunrise, and 95 Iloilo educators who each built a prototype. In 2026, micro:bit Champions scales this to every chapter.
